The Best Hollywood Director No One Talks About

Because Hollywood was making so many movies, some of them turned out to be real gems....

HOSTING MIDNIGHT SCREENING OF "CHRISTINE"
My web show Cinema Cool has been on a bit of a hiatus since last summer, but the show is coming out of retirement as I host a midnight screening of John Carpenter’s classic Christine tonight (Friday, March 4th) at the Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles. The film is being shown via a brand new 35mm print, and there will also be a Blu-ray/DVD giveaway and the premiere of a special video...

Arlo ze Artist
Arlyne Ramirez a.k.a. Arlo Ramz is an artistic force to be reckoned with. She just did some work on this project I’m involved with that is too-cool-for-school. Until that premieres, go here for a glimpse into her totally original imagination.

BOMBAY BEACH TO BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL
Huge congratulations to Mischief Night editor Joe Lindquist on the news that the feature-length documentary he edited, Bombay Beach, will premiere at this year’s Berlin International Film festival—one of the most important film festivals on the planet!  I couldn’t be happier for Joe as well as the film’s director, Alma Har’el and its producer, Boaz Yakin. The film...

(My) Words To Live By
Waking up every morning is truly rebirth. We emerge from a dark and abstract sleep to find a bustling world of light and symmetry. Every day represents the chance to grow from infant to ancient, poet to lover, person to legend. There is no grand passage of time when every day is a new lifetime.

WatchWatch
THE STRANGEST SECRET IN THE WORLD! If you’ve got thirty minutes to spare, give this old record a listen. It’s hailed as the origin of the self-help industry. Not only is it a compact distillation of every valuable “how-to-succeed” principle you’ve ever heard or read about, but it’s also a really cool artifact of its time and place: America in 1956. Thanks to...

D. Palms is a new hip hop artist I got linked to today. I’m really digging these first few tracks. His style’s like a cross between Jadakiss and Slug from Atmosphere. Hit the title above to listen.
